TRACK TRIP - Sunday 22nd November

Sunday 22nd November is the trip to Newport Velodrome. The track is booked for 11 - 2. We are taking a minibus up, which will be meeting at Kingsbridge Community College at 7.30 am. Cost of the minibus is £90 in total so we will just split the cost between those on it (Will wants to use a space for his bike so he can pay double!)

The bus can take 17 people so plenty of space still. Please comment on this thread if you would like a space and I'll add you to the list.

For the track you will need: Food, Drink, Kit, Shoes to wear on the track (they have old style look pedals, or you can use normal shoes and toe clips. You must also wear gloves and a helmet on the track. There are also showers there.

Jonny Tames The Beast

Last Sunday, John Woodland of CSSH completed the Exmoor Beast. In diabolical weather conditions of 45-50mph winds and sideways torrential rain, the start was delayed and the 100 mile event cancelled. Many entrants didn't fancy it and choose not to start, but despite only being able to make one decent at 9mph pedalling into the headwind and being blown right across the road on top of Exmoor, Jonny completed the 100km event.

Following seven hours of pain, he said, "After riding in that, nothing will be a problem!" Congratulations on a valiant effort.

What is Cyclo‐Cross?
Cyclo‐cross is a mix between mountain biking and road racing. It requires stamina and
good bike handling skills. It is raced on fields and involves obstacles such as steep
banks or wooden boards which require the rider to dismount and carry his/her bike.
The races are less than an hour and considerably shorter for youths – so taking part
does not require training.
Do I need a Cyclo‐cross bike to race?
No. Although the serious riders will have one, many riders will race on a mountain
bike. You can turn up on any old mountain bike and still compete – so anyone can give
it a go! Please remember your cycling helmet as one will be required to compete.
Help for Heroes?
This year’s event is raising money for Help for Heroes, there will be a raffle (£1 entry),
collection boxes and all event profit will be donated to the charity. Please bring a
raffle prize with you and present it to the sign on team, thanks for your support.

End of British Summer Time

This heralds the start of Winter hard work and a fantastic opportunity to annoy the hideous creatures of kingsbridge who think we should not be on the roads. This Tuesday I would like to achieve critical mass and get enough people on the ride round town under lights to get us noticed. This is a training ride and all are welcome, remember lights and if raining mudguards please.

The work starts here for the rewards next year.

I know it is early but 24/12 2010 is open to regester. So instead of doing 2 teams of 24hrs how about we do several teams comprising of 1x 24hrs team. and a couple of mixed doubles 12hrs. solos if don wants a go to show us how unfit we are....

Meet at the usual time 7 30 pm but different location The Open Arms - Chillington as reccomended by George Rickhuss for its Cherry Pie. George has been has been doing extensive research into pubs of the South Hams. Tom Graham was also very keen on a game of pool.

I assume there will also be a group meeting at 0930 as usual for a training ride I'm not sure as I will be in Cornwall.
